Our Retreat Space
La Maison Cavendish is a beautiful early 19th century ‘Maison de Maître’ close to the pretty town of Argenton-sur-Creuse, and is the perfect place to disconnect from real life!
The rooms are bright and spacious with high ceilings and traditional character and charm. It overlooks the swimming pool set in over an acre of garden made private by mature trees and large shrubs.

The Local Area
It was once a bustling town: tanneries and mills lining up the river banks. It was first renowned for its silverwork, and later, for its production of linens, shoes and boots. In the Middle Ages, a medieval fortress towered above the fortified town, but was dismantled in the early 17th century on Louis XIII’s orders. Former grand hôtels particuliers built in the 15th and 16th centuries, can still be spotted along quiet streets. In short, there is more to Argenton sur Creuse than meets the eye! These days, like much of La Province (i.e. France outside Paris), Argenton is a quiet little town where time slows down and activity (such as it is) is based around the opening times of the local shops and bars. The town is dominated by the river Creuse and the two bridges spanning it. Around town there are small reminders of the various floods that occasionally disrupt the tranquility.
Argenton sur Creuse, nicknamed la Venise du Berry (the Venice of the Berry,) is an ancient town. Ruins of the old Gallo-Roman city of Argentomagus lie nearby.
What to expect:
Suggested Itinerary (to be confirmed) Day 1, Arrival Upon arrival, you will be greeted at Maison Cavendish, have chance to settle and to explore the house, grounds and pool, and to connect with the other ladies joining you on the retreat. We will provide you with a buffet supper at the house. Day 2 Continental breakfast will be prepared at the house, and then we pack our lunches and day packs as we head off for a days walking to discover the local countryside. We will stop to enjoy our lunches and maybe enjoy some time wild water swimming. We will head to a local restuarant for a set menu, to enjoy the local cuisine. Day 3 After a continental breakfast at the house, we again pack our day packs and head into Argenton sur Creuse to spend some time exploring my local village. There will be time to discover the local food market, boutiques, and cafes! We will then head back to the house, stopping at some of the local sites. That afternoon you can choose from time relaxing by the river or simply chilling at the house and pool. Day 4, Departure day. Once again we will share a continental breakfast at the house, and get packed up ready for your transfer to the local train station.

I am the founder of Sobriety Sisterhood, helping and supporting women on their Sobriety journey.
She lives in France with her three children and many animals, and my passions are yoga, and walking in and around the beautiful French Countryside!
